Breath WeaponBreath Weapon (13): A 10-yard jet of dust and grit erupts from the mephit’s mouth. It uses Innate Attack (Breath) to hit. Don’t apply range penalties; treat this as a long melee weapon rather than a ranged attack. It does 1d cutting damage, and has a 1/2D range of 5 yards. If any damage penetrates the target’s DR, he must make a HT roll, at -1 per 2 points of injury or suffer from itching skin and eyes for (20 – HT) minutes. The target is at -2 to DX for the duration of the itch. Scratching for one full second relieves the itch, but the target can do nothing else while scratching. This ability costs 1 FP to use.13A 10-yard jet of dust and grit erupts from the mephit’s mouth. It uses Innate Attack (Breath) to hit. Notes

  • GCS ancestry draft: gcs/dust-mephit.gct
  • Source template total: 83 points.
  • Library-rebuilt template total: 83 points.
  • CER was computed from parsed Typical Stats using the Dungeons On Automatic baseline CER path.
  • Review attacks, special abilities, encounter frequency, treasure, grappling, and GCS modifiers before approval.
  • Dust Plume: Once per hour, a dust mephit can surround himself with a plume of dust. This reaches to a two-yard radius around the mephit. With care, it can include a few friends as well. Subtract 4 from any attempts to see the mephit using normal vision; there is no resistance roll. Even if someone does manage to see the mephit, subtract 4 from any attack roll against him that relies on vision to hit. The mephit itself can see perfectly while using this ability. The boundaries of the zone are easily detected by vision, however; roll at +4. The mephit activates this ability by taking a Concentrate maneuver. Each activation lasts for 1 minute.

  • GCS ancestry draft: gcs/dust-mephit.gct
  • Source template total: 83 points.
  • Library-rebuilt template total: 83 points.
  • CER was computed from parsed Typical Stats using the Dungeons On Automatic baseline CER path.
  • Issue #5: 1 special ability construction(s) restored. No disabling construction on this record carries a cost the affliction term can score.
  • CER recomputed from the reviewed Typical Stats through the canonical Dungeons on Automatic CER path: OR 7, PR -4, CER 3, threat tier minor.
  • Conversion baseline reported OR 8, PR -4, CER 4 (tier minor). The reviewed values come from the consumer CER implementation, which rounds damage once after the damage-type multiplier and credits ranged accuracy; the conversion baseline ceilinged the damage base first and ignored range.
  • Encounter metadata derived (default): average number appearing 4, wandering weight 4. Encounter metadata derived for 0.2.0 from the reviewed threat tier and creature class (appearing: minor 4 / standard 2 / major 1 / severe 1, forced to 1 for solitary classes — including swarms, which are a single multi-body creature — and raised to 6 for gregarious minor creatures; wandering weight: minor 4 / standard 3 / major 2 / severe 1). The fan-conversion source states no appearing-in-numbers or wandering values, so these are derived, not source mechanics.
  • Lair, treasure, and grappling remain unpopulated in 0.2.0 by package policy: the authorized fan-conversion source states no lair, treasure, or grappling values, and review declines to invent them. See review/policy/0.2.0-empty-field-policy.md.
  • Review approved by automated-mechanical-review on 2026-07-26 (batch ee-2026-07-26-b4-special-mechanics); GCS fidelity check passed, DOA playability check passed.
  • Special-mechanics record. Mechanics the CER path cannot price are named per record in review/reports/cer-audit.md rather than folded into the number, and encounter counts are capped where a save-or-disable attack is present.
