Attributes
Melee attacks
| Usage | Level | Damage | Reach |
|---|---|---|---|
| PunchPunch (11): thrust 1d crushing (KYOS: 1d+2 crushing), Reach C. The damage includes the +1 bonus for improvised brass knuckles. | 11 | thrust 1d crushing (KYOS: 1d+2 crushing) | C |
| ChainsChains (15): The chain devil has two long chains that it can use to attack enemies. These chains deal swing 2d crushing, Reach 1-4*. The chains are awkward enough that they require a Ready maneuver to change reach (e.g., between 1 and 3). Otherwise, the chain devil can strike at foes that are at any distance within the chains’ reach. Attempts to parry the chains are at -4, and fencing weapons cannot parry at all! Attempts to block chains are at -2. This swinging attack is unbalanced – the chain devil cannot use it to parry if it has already used it to attack this turn (or vice versa), and parries with the chains are at -2. The chain devil has two chain attacks, which permits him Dual-Weapon Attacks (p. B417). The chains have DR 4 and effective weight 1.4 lbs. This attack uses the Kusari skill. | 15 | The chain devil has two long chains that it can use to attack enemies. These chains deal swing 2d crushing | 1-4* |
| Dancing ChainsDancing Chains (15): The chain devil can animate any chain within 10 yards of him. He can animate up to 8 yards of chain, assuming the chain weighs 2 lbs. per yard. 8 yards of chain have 20 HP. An animated chain can grab, lift, strike, and throw with ST equal to its HP/2. It has the chain devil’s DX. It can walk and jump if it isn’t fixed in place; Move equals 10–HP/2. The chain devil can use skills through animated chains (including Kusari to make swinging attacks) – but note that chains have No Fine Manipulators. Chains return to their rest state once the chain devil gives up control. | 15 | The chain devil can animate any chain within 10 yards of him. | Unnerving GazeUnnerving Gaze (11): The chain devil can make its face resemble one of an opponent’s departed loved ones or bitter enemies with a Concentrate maneuver. The victim must be within 10 yards. Roll a Quick Contest of Will with the victim. If the chain devil wins, roll 3d for the Fright Check result, as usual, but add his margin of victory instead of his margin of failure. | 11 | The chain devil can make its face resemble one of an opponent’s departed loved ones or bitter enemies with a Concentrate maneuver. - Library-rebuilt template total: 247 points.
- CER was computed from parsed Typical Stats using the Dungeons On Automatic baseline CER path.
- Issue #5: 0 special ability construction(s) restored and 1 annotated with the source's stated cost. 1 save-or-disable construction(s) are scored through the affliction term at the source's stated point cost, or at Binding ST where the source builds the ability as a Binding.
- CER recomputed from the reviewed Typical Stats through the canonical Dungeons on Automatic CER path: OR 22, PR 14, CER 36, threat tier standard.
- Conversion baseline reported OR 14, PR 14, CER 28 (tier standard). The reviewed values come from the consumer CER implementation, which rounds damage once after the damage-type multiplier and credits ranged accuracy; the conversion baseline ceilinged the damage base first and ignored range.
- Encounter metadata derived (default): average number appearing 2, wandering weight 3. Encounter metadata derived for 0.2.0 from the reviewed threat tier and creature class (appearing: minor 4 / standard 2 / major 1 / severe 1, forced to 1 for solitary classes — including swarms, which are a single multi-body creature — and raised to 6 for gregarious minor creatures; wandering weight: minor 4 / standard 3 / major 2 / severe 1). The fan-conversion source states no appearing-in-numbers or wandering values, so these are derived, not source mechanics.
- Lair, treasure, and grappling remain unpopulated in 0.2.0 by package policy: the authorized fan-conversion source states no lair, treasure, or grappling values, and review declines to invent them. See review/policy/0.2.0-empty-field-policy.md.
- Review approved by automated-mechanical-review on 2026-07-26 (batch ee-2026-07-26-b4-special-mechanics); GCS fidelity check passed, DOA playability check passed.
- Special-mechanics record. Mechanics the CER path cannot price are named per record in review/reports/cer-audit.md rather than folded into the number, and encounter counts are capped where a save-or-disable attack is present.
